As people start buying flowers and garden plants, it’s important to remember that many common varieties are toxic to dogs and puppies.

Before planting or bringing new plants into your home, check they are pet safe.

Garden Plants Toxic to Dogs

• Lilies• Daffodils• Tulips• Hyacinths• Foxglove• Rhododendron and Azalea• Hydrangea• Delphinium and Lupin• Laburnum• Oleander• Ivy• Yew• Ragwort• Hemlock• Deadly Nightshade

Houseplants Toxic to Dogs

• Peace Lily and Calla Lily• Aloe Vera• Dieffenbachia• Philodendron• Monstera• Pothos (Devil’s Ivy)• Sago Palm• Snake Plant• Jade Plant• Cyclamen

Spring bulbs such as daffodil, tulip and crocus bulbs are particularly dangerous if dug up and eaten.

Signs of Plant Poisoning

• Vomiting• Diarrhoea• Drooling• Lethargy• Trembling• Seizures• Difficulty breathing• Collapse

Symptoms may appear quickly or be delayed.

If You Suspect Poisoning

• Contact your vet immediately• Call the Animal PoisonLine for urgent advice• Do not wait for symptoms to worsen
